The demand for a school
The Bath and North East Somerset School Organisation Plan 2017-2021 (Primary & Secondary) sets out the Council’s strategic planning process for the provision of school places. Within the Plan it identifies the need for a new primary school in the Keynsham area to serve a number of housing developments. The Council is fully supportive of the new school which will provide additional places for local children. If the new school is not delivered this will lead to a shortfall in places and children being transported out of the local area to access school provision.
The principle of a new one-form entry (60 places in each year group) primary school on this site was approved in 2017 as part of the outline planning application (16/00850/OUT) for Crest Nicholson’s Hygge Park development.
Due to the demand for school places, the need has increased to a two-form entry (60 places in each year group) school for 420 pupils aged between 4 and 11 years old. Modelling to determine the transport impact of a larger 2FE school was considered as part of the outline planning application. The full analysis will, however, be provided as part of the forthcoming full planning application, for review.
